Diatomaceous Earth - A Non-Toxic Ant Killer / Repellent

Diatomaceous Earth Non-Toxic Ant Killer / Repellent

Diatomaceous Earth is not actually earth. It's the fossilized remains of single celled plants called diatoms. The fossils are ground to a powder that will cut through an ant's exoskelleton and absorbing it's body fluids. The ants then die of dehydration.

You can apply Diatomaceous Earth around the perimiter of you house to kill any ants that try to enter. Diatomaceous Earth also has a repellent effect so many insects will just avoid it all together.

Diatomaceous Earth is non-toxic to the earth and mammals. A plus is that when you apply it around your house, over time it builds up a natural barrier to insect infestation with very little work on your part.

When you buy Diatomaceous Earth you need to be sure you get Food Grade (aka codex) Diatomaceous Earth. Other forms (used in pools) can be harmful to humans.

Perma-Guard, Inc. is a good source for purchasing Diatomaceous Earth.
